Friendship Ministry: for those experiencing disabilities

GCPC’s Friendship Ministry exists to support those who attend worship with various disabilities. Our goal is to be a family of Christ in which all may joyfully and freely participate.

If you or a loved one have a need we can accommodate, please don’t hesitate to reach out. It would be our privilege to learn how we can help.

Friendship Coordinator: Mariko Reynolds
Email: friendship@gracecovenantpca.org

Mariko is a Hokie, a wife and a mother of a family member touched by disability. She is passionate about worshiping with a great multitude of people from every nation, tribe, language, and walk. Mariko is thrilled to volunteer her time to help GCPC welcome and fully include people touched by disability.

About our building: GCPC is a single story building with neither stairs nor inclines. There are several handicapped parking spaces located next to the front door. Seating in the sanctuary is flexible (chairs rather than pews) and can easily be arranged to accommodate wheelchairs and other mobility supports. The front bathrooms are equipped with handicapped access buttons.

Accommodations for movement and other needs: For those who experience challenges with sitting for extended periods, our foyer is open for standing and gentle movement during the service. You’re also welcome to bring items that help you feel more comfortable (crafts, fidgets, etc.) Finally, we realize that unpredictable vocalizations are a part of life for some folks. We expect that and we’re ok with it!

If there’s anything we can do to make it easier for you to worship with us, please let us know. We’re here to help.

In Summer 2025, several GCPCrs were able to serve at Camp Celebrate, which supports the families of those with a disability. We hope to continue to participate in and offer other opportunities to serve the disability community in the coming year.
