Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church

What Does Our Name Mean?

Grace

God s free gift of forgiveness and eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.  Because of our sin, we all deserve death and hell, but Jesus, the only Son of God, died in the place of all who believe in Him, that His perfect life might be credited to us.  This new life is not earned by our works, but is a gift from God, that none may boast (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Covenant
A binding promise from God to establish a personal relationship of love between Himself and those who have faith in Jesus Christ.  Those in covenant with God are then transformed to live lives of increasing repentance and holiness.  The Bible is tied together by one Covenant of Grace from beginning to end (Matthew 26:28).

Presbyterian
The church is pastored by elders (Greek: presbyters) who are elected by the congregation.  The elders submit to the authority of Christ through His word and work together with elders from other local congregations to advance God’s kingdom (Titus 1:5-9 and Acts 15).

Church
The assembly of believers in a given locale who worship God and grow in faith as the Body of Christ.  Together, all true churches across denominations make up the One holy, catholic (universal) and apostolic (biblical) Church (Acts 2:42-47 and Ephesians 3:10).

Presbyterian Church in America

Grace Covenant is a member of the Blue Ridge Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), a growing, evangelical denomination about 30 years old.

The PCA traces its roots back to the ancient church through the Protestant Reformation and stands by the central tenets of the Reformers: Scripture Alone, Christ Alone, Faith Alone, Grace Alone, God’s Glory Alone.  We seek to remain true to the Scriptures, the Reformed faith, and the Great Commission of Jesus Christ.
